It use to be only old school racers would ride fixed gear bikes for training but that is not true any more. Bike messengers, hipsters, and other riders who just want a simpler but challenging form of riding are pedaling fixed gear bicycles. Some of the entry level models will have one brake and a single speed freewheel but the advance models will have no brakes and a totally fixed rear cog.
